One of my dogs gets so excited when we go anywhere, that he could have a heat stroke in the middle of winter. To keep him cool, I always pack plenty of water & ice. I also use a doggie cooling vest, & a cooling mat. Both draw heat away from the chest & stomach area. I've seen the dog cooling vests that lay across their back instead of their chest & stomach. Those are a waste of money. When a dog begins to over-heat, getting it's back cooled off doesn't help. The main areas are the chest & stomach. Before I got a cooling vest, I used old beach towels. I wet them down, threw them in the freezer, fridge or cooler for him to lay on later.
