Georgia: Searchers find body in Cloudland Canyon

By Todd South, Staff Writer

Search teams found the body of a white female deep in a ravine at Cloudland Canyon State Park on Thursday afternoon.

Crews since late Monday have been searching for Judy Payne, 45, a missing Rock Spring, Ga., woman, said Kim Hatcher, Georgia State Parks spokeswoman.

“A body has been found, it has not been positively identified,” Mrs. Hatcher said. “The family has been notified, the body will have to go to the crime lab to determine whether their was any foul play or if this was an accident.”

Teams began searching in the rugged area of Cloudland Canyon after Judy Charlene Payne’s car was found at 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Payne, 45, was last seen by her husband Mark Payne at 7 a.m. Monday as she left on her way to work in Chattanooga.

She did not report to work that day, Mrs. Hatcher said.
