Ben Taylor & David Saw on this week's MUSICcast

Ben Taylor & David Saw have a kind of synergy on stage that reminds one of the great acoustic duos of the past. I’m talking about Loggins & Messina, Seals & Crofts and, to some extent, the Smothers Brothers. Both Ben and David are currently on tour supporting David’s most recent album “Broken Down Figure.” Ben, the son of Carly Simon and James Taylor, is performing select songs from his forthcoming album “The Legend of Kung Folk Part One: The Killing Bite.” On their own, both songwriters write well-crafted songs with beautiful voices to match, but together something magical happens. I had the opportunity to meet both artists before their gig on Tuesday night. We’ll hear a song from David Saw and a few from Ben Taylor. Enjoy.

A bit of an addendum: Tuesday’s show was supported by Carrie Tree, a wonderful singer/songwriter from the UK. Her covers of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and Portishead’s “Bows + Arrows” were spot on.

I’ll be recuperating from wisdom teeth extraction surgery this weekend, but that’s no reason for you to stay home. Here are some great shows:

NIGHTFALL is back! The Mike Farris Band kicks this year off at 8 p.m. in Miller Plaza downtown. Check out this year’s schedule.

The Nim Nims are having a CD-release party at JJ’s Bohemia tonight. They’ll be joined by Luego. Showtime is 10 p.m.

Jeff & Vida are at the Barking Legs Theater tonight. If you like “old time” music this is a show you can’t miss. Tickets are $10. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Songwriters Sarah Siskind & Angel Snow are performing at the Barking Legs on Saturday night. Tickets are $10. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Have a great, accident-free, weekend.
