City Councilman Dan Page said Monday he would not seek re-election to the District 3 seat after serving almost eight years on the City Council.
He said he decided not to run so he could have more time with personal business and his new grandchild. He also said he believes in citizens having a chance to participate in government.
“You know when the time’s come, it’s time to leave,” Mr. Page said.
He made the announcement early Monday morning in a prepared statement sent out by e-mail. Mr. Page said he wanted to announce the decision as early as possible to give anyone interested in running for the seat a chance to put his name in.
“We need to have some good people to serve,” he said.
Councilman Manny Rico said Monday he talked to Mr. Page last week about the decision. He said Mr. Page had not decided at that point.
“I talked to him a week ago and asked him to please run again because he brings a lot to the table,” Mr. Rico said. “You always hate losing experience.”
Mayor Ron Littlefield said in a statement Monday that he has enjoyed working with Mr. Page for the past eight years.
“Councilman Page has served as an authority on numerous issues and in particular health-related matters,” Mr. Littlefield said. “His leadership, wisdom and insight will be missed.”
