about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

First..given Scottys background and business acumen, I would have thought he'd have 'shown up' better than he has to this point..still I am big fan.

Secondly..it should have dawned on me a while ago that Andrew is not only a Bible scholar but "as pure as the driven snow" as well. It says right there in "The Good Book", "...he that is without sin cast the first stone...." I've never met a sin-less person before Andrew, excuse me if I stand and gawk a little..Woody

Just seen on Newsbusters.org:

Once upon a time, it meant something for a reporter to be called a “Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.” The prestige of this designation is quickly eroding. The 2012 Pulitzer Prizes looked lesslike an excellence-in-media competition and more like an exercise in leftist self-affirmation. No prize established this more strongly than the coveted National Reporting prize going to...The Huffington Post.

"The Pulitzer judges who would rather swallow rat poison than give an award to a conservative outlet like The Washington Times are bestowing kudos on a site that thrives on celebrity dreck like “Miley Shows Off Legs in Lacy Shorts” and “Kim Wears Kanye’s Initials on Her Ears.” Unquote

To say nothing about those "awarded" to Al Bore and Hussein The Usurper for something or other...nothing real or meaningful in any case.

Have a nice day. Remember to vote for NoBama in Nov and for any noobie running for Congress regardless of party.

Mayfield said he doesn't have any differences than Fleischmann, so why run? So far, he hasn't given us a platform only stating he will tell us after he is assigned a committee in Congress. How arrogant and presumptive of the ice cream heir.

Kudos to Weston Wamp and his connections for releasing the devastating video. Mayfield ought to know his life is public now and speaking at a political forum, especially in front of college kids, is open for scrutiny. We all saw first hand he isn't prepared. He reminded me of George W. Bush, but worse... it was horrendous, in epic fashion.

Btw and off topic, what happened to the preview, link, italics, bold and block quote buttons? I would like to embed the video. Should I use basic html for this?

It shouldn't be a stretch for anyone to think Mr. Mayfield can get elected without stating a platform. Look at what happened the last time: Chuckie got elected without a single debate. Now we have Weston Wamp whose only qualification thus far is the fact he's the son of Zach Wamp.

The Dems haven't really challenged for the Third District Seat since Marilyn Lloyd left office. Obviously, the only requirement for a candidate in the Third District is they must have an "R" beside their name, SUBSTANCE OR PLATFORM NOT REQUIRED.

The only real qualification required to run and get elected to any position in this country is to either be rich or have family and friends who are rich. Just look around. Don't blame the candidates..we are the ones who elect them. Then we complain that the country is going to h#ll in a hand-basket.

The Dems have two great candidates: Bill Taylor and Mary Headrick. Bill Taylor is a CPA and businessman in the health care industry. Dr. Mary Headrick is a retired physician. Both know and are protective of Medicare and Medicaid. As opposed to Fleischmann who voted to kill and privatize it.

Sandy, you're such a stupid skank. Obama raided medicare for $500 billion to help pay for his retarded "health care" plan. Yet, I don't hear a peep from you about him pushing grandma off a cliff. If you want to say the republicans want to kill grandma for messing around with medicare, Why isn't Obama held to the same criticism? Double standards yet again for the liberal boneheads.

I note Scotty Mayfield does provide a list of issues that he thinks is important on his campaign website, which I suppose could be considered a starting point for a platform. There were a couple of issues that caught my attention, but Mr. Mayfield doesn’t provide any real details so it’s not really clear exactly what he has in mind.

For example, he mentions standing up for East Tennessee values, but he leaves it up to one’s imagination as to what those values might be. Since the State of Tennessee has made the list as one the top ten most violent states in union, this is what popped up in my mind. In addition to the human issues involved, it cost taxpayers about 11.67 billion dollars last year.

As to the Democrats, you're right, of course. I don’t understand why there hasn’t been a real challenge by the Democrats. It’s not like there isn’t a lot to challenge. I think Mary Headrick does an excellent job in identifying the issues that I consider to be important at this point, and I know lots of other people feel the same way - both Democrats and Republicans.

And that's the problem. He comes off like ole Newton Leeroy who had a plan to bring gas prices down to $2.50 a gallon but he couldn't tell you what the plan was unless he got elected. And that takes me back to Nixon in 1968 who had a "secret plan to end the Viet Nam War." Of course when he got elected it turns out his "secret plan" was to escalate the war and more young soldiers were drafted and sent off to die. By 1975, people were literally standing on the rooftop of the U.S. Embassy waiting to get out of Viet Nam as it was being run over by the Viet Cong. So much for his SECRET PLAN TO WIN THE WAR.

If nothing else HISTORY should teach voters to never pick a person who claims to have a plan to do something but they can't tell you about it unless they get elected.

Your comment brought Mitt Romney to mind along with some of his little secret chats with donors about getting rid of the Department of Education:

“Romney has candidly admitted that he's keeping his plans for eliminating government agencies secret so that they don't come back to haunt him in the general election. As he told the fundraising crowd on Sunday, he's still smarting from the ad Ted Kennedy ran against him in the 1994 Senate race, which homed in on Romney's call to eliminate the Department of Education.” . . .

"If all he wants to do is use the Department of Education to go after unions -- then he’s clearly not interested in using it to help kids," Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers said in a statement. "How does it help kids when Romney wants to use the federal government to undermine teachers and their unions? Romney is out of touch. He doesn't get it."

I went to Mayfield’s Republican competitors websites this evening to see what they had to say about the health care issue and noted that like Mayfield they don’t care for the Democrat’s Obamacare, but neither Fleischmann nor Wamp seem to have any alternate plans to resolve the healthcare crisis in the U.S., which says our local Republicans are satisfied with the status quo and the insurance industry can continue making bit fat profits off of sick Americans.

Fleischmann was particularly amusing as he tells visitors to contact his office if they want to know his views on the healthcare issue. I suspect he is trying to avoid putting anything in writing since the current Republican healthcare plan leaves 52 million people without healthcare coverage. Anyway, this all Fleishman’s offers on his website on the issue of Healthcare:

“Health issues affect us all and determining the best means of addressing them is an important part of my work in Congress. For more information concerning my work and views on Health issues, please contact my Washington, DC office.” [Fleischmann]

Wamp is just as ambiguous and what he does manage to say is incredibly nonsensical. I don’t think Wamp understands that the reason healthcare costs in the U.S. have become unaffordable is because the U.S. pays providers so much more than other countries. The costs in the U.S. were more than twice as high as in France and the U.K. and more than 80 percent higher than in Germany. As to what Wamp Jr. actually does say about healthcare, this is it:

“Health insurance costs continue to rise and the radical federal healthcare mandates restrict small business growth. We must deploy free market principles, increase competition, expand access to our private healthcare system and lower costs so that business owners know for certain the government will do no more harm.” [Wamp]

The audacity and arrogance of Mr. “Corporation Are People” Romney, to say one word about “abuse and power” in the context of teacher unions is blatantly dishonest and hypocritical. Who is he trying to fool? Indeed, if this peacock wants to address the issue of “abuse and power,” he should look in a direction where “abuse and power” actually exists, particularly in the direction of some of these corrupt corporations like Koch indusries who are funding his campaign while undermining the health and welfare of American society.

So Scottie Mayfield's son cuts up Chuckie's campaign manager's tires and Weston Wamp sends his sister out to secretly film a Mayfield talk to Young Repubs in Knoxville. You have to wonder just exactly what Chuckie's campaign staff did to make young Mayfield so angry and what the "heir" to Wamp's seat hoped to accomplish with his secret mission?

This is like a re-run of Donald Segretti and the rat-f*ckers, same old tired College boy pranks. It's too bad that unless the Dems are SERIOUS about winning the Third District seat back, one of these clowns will be representing the Third District.
