Following in the footsteps of his late father, Communist North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il, newly installed dictator Kim Jong Un is issuing predictable threats against peaceful, democratic South Korea.
Kim vows that the slightest misstep by South Korea in its joint annual military maneuvers with the United States could lead to a "powerful retaliatory strike," government-run North Korean news media "reported."
North Korea labeled the routine drills a "new war of aggression."
Tragically, the real aggressors on the Korean Peninsula are the leaders of Communist North Korea itself and the 1.2 million-member military that they control. Their aggression is unfortunately aided by the fact that they now apparently possess nuclear weapons.
There was no indication that either South Korea or the United States intended to pull back from the military maneuvers to even the slightest degree in the face of the absurd allegations.
That is obviously as it should be.
But what is also obvious is that South Korea, other nations near North Korea and, most of all, the oppressed North Korean people would be vastly better off if totalitarian butchers didn't rule that country.

Why does the US need to hold maneuvers off the coast of another country that does not welcome such maneuvers? Would the US sit quietly by if Cuba were to have joint maneuvers with North Korea off the Texas coast? Of course not. We would probably respond with force.
An aggressive American military posture around the globe has precipitated a growing ill-will towards the US that can be overcome by pulling in our horns and behaving like a good neighbor rather than a military bully.
The world wants to admire the American example of blended cultures. Our military aggression has turned possible admiration into anger and hatred. That is what makes us less safe.
Because the last time we did not hold maneuvers off the coast of that particular country and acted as non aggressively as possible to them they rolled more tanks south than were at the battle of Kurtsk and started a war that involved most of the UN for years. The ROK would hand their a$$es to them if they tried it again but they are so delusional that they would go for it anyway.
Surely you jest.
Somebody's confusing a country backed by a major super-power that was co-opted by a mentality of aggression with that same country today.
Even if their glorious leader were to be that insane, his generals would not be, and would arrange an accident.
