A Soddy-Daisy man drowned in a local creek early today, according to Lt. Jeff Gann with the Soddy-Daisy Police Department.
Rodney D. Miller was in a group of people who had walked to the creek to go swimming. He went in the water with others but never came out, witnesses said.
The swimmers called police about 4 a.m. Because of the darkness and the strong current in the creek, it wasn’t safe to seach then, Gann said in a news release.
Some 80 to 100 people began searching this morning, including volunteers from area fire and rescue units, emergency responders, the STARS team and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office brought an underwater camera and used it to locate Miller’s body, Gann said.
