VIDEO: Florida wreck kills Chattanooga family

Three Chattanooga residents were killed early Sunday morning after their truck collided with a vehicle that was going the wrong direction on Interstate 95 in Florida, according to reports.

About 2:19 a.m., Port St. Lucie, Fla., resident Carolyn Ramos, 41, was driving south in the northbound lane of the interstate before crashing into a Silverado pickup. In the truck were Chattanooga residents Demetrius Suggs, 28; Porcsha Suggs, age unknown; and 7-year-old Mercedes Davis, according to the Florida Highway Patrol in a report on TCPalm, the area's newspaper and television partnership website.

Another vehicle swerved out of the way of Ramos' vehicle just before the collision occurred, which might have kept Suggs from seeing the oncoming vehicle in time, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Tim Frith told TCPalm.

A fourth passenger, 9-year-old Raineisha Powell (McGee), of Miami, also was killed in the collision, according to the website.

Both vehicles burst into flames after the crash, according to the website. Ramos was pulled out of the fiery collision by three motorists before being airlifted to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute, where she was listed in stable condition, the website stated.

No information was available on how Ramos got onto I-95 or how long she was driving in the wrong direction.

"We have reasonable suspicion to believe that alcohol was a contributing factor to this crash about one-half mile north of state Road 714," Frith told TC Palm.

Charges have not been filed.
