Barbara Thurman, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011.She was the daughter of the late Thomas McConnell Gouldy and Bess Womble Gouldy and was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Thurman; and brother, Robert L. Gouldy.She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was very involved in various church activities for over 59 years.Barbara graduated from City High School and retired, as a secretary, from TVA.Survivors include her two children, Chris (Kathy) Thurman, of Ooltewah, Barbara (Ray) King, of Rossville; four grandchildren, Matthew Thurman, Mark (Wanda) King, Lisa (Richard) Rose, David (Barbara) King; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Brewer, Megan King, Allison King; two great-great-grandchildren, Drew Brewer, Ellie Brewer; and several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, with Pastor Ernie Reno officiating.The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Amedisys Hospice of Chattanooga or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.Please share your thoughts and memories online at www.ChattanoogaValleyViewChapel.com.Arrangements by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Valley View Chapel, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
